Mount Athosdark chestnut honey, with its powerful and intense woody scent, vibrant peppery taste, and unique aroma, is slightly less sweet than other honeys, with a somewhat bitter aftertaste. It is highly sought after for its flavour and unique properties, and is suitable for people who aren’t fans of sugar.

It is a mixed honey, from chestnut flowers and honeydew secretions. Scientifically it is classified as a floral honey, due to its physicochemical characteristics. It crystallises after a very long time.

It is rich in trace elements, such as potassium, magnesium, manganese, barium, as well as fructose and tannins. It has a high content of intangible pollen grains that give it a very strong taste. This is one of its major advantages, as the rich pollen increases its nutritional value.

It induces perspiration and is a very good tonic, aiding blood circulation. Furthermore, it has disinfectant and healing properties, which are especially useful to the urinary and digestive systems. It can also act as an astringent in cases of dysentery.

It is recommended for people who exercise, the elderly, and children.

It combines wonderfully with mature cheeses or intensely flavoured meats.
